  1. LissI think the editors really should have checked more closely the Canadian availability/shipping costs associated with some of these items. Most (if not all) links are from US sites, even though you are marketing to Canadian clients. This raises the shipping costs to a point that makes the items virtually worthless. For example, the Digits conductive glove tips are 11.99 US, + *12.50* USPS shipping fee= 24.49 US = 25.45 CAD. That's basic shipping to a Toronto address, for what are essentially 4 brass pin-magnets. Please note they are also selling them as a pack of 4 now, not 8. December 15, 20113:00 pm
  2. MarkkusFirst, I have to totally agree with Liss. The one or two items that kind of interested me were much more expensive, in the end, once shipping costs and any border fees were tagged on. And, the U.S. sites didn't promise delivery by Christmas. Together, this makes it worthless to order and sends us back into local stores (frankly, I prefer supporting local merchants anyway). This has got to be the most uninspired and practically useless list that Connected/UR has come up with to date. I've always purchased about 4-5 items you guys suggested in the past and received great compliments from the gift recipients who loved their surprises! And they were always unique surprises! This year, I'm very disappointed in the list. I usually love the suggestions (previous years) because they were right on point, practical and appropriate "to the masses". Like I'm going to spend nearly the price of an iPad itself to buy a LV case for one? Don't think so. And I can bet that any recipient of one would quickly put it up on eBay for re-sale to buy something she'd find much more practical and appropriate. People aren't STUPID!! In these economic times, Laura, your "fashionista", should get her head out of the clouds of covering rich celebrities or whatever and think about your everyday readers. $440!! Are you insane? And I'm pretty sure that if anyone on our list is wanting an Apple *anything* (i.e. Apple Macbook Air) that we're already pretty sold on the brand, model and will bee-line it to the Apple Store to buy it. We don't need Rogers to inform us! Same goes for the Blackberry – just Rogers trying to push their own interests. Wait, Blackberry, does anyone still buy RIM products anymore??? And HTC Rader? Hell, if Rogers did their marketing and sales homework properly, they would have secured the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (oooo, I know, its very mention is probably a sore spot at Rogers HQ at this point!) because that's the Android phone that I and everyone else is waiting for. Do you really want us to jump to Smell Canada or become Virgins? Lastly, I've never understood why magazines are so intent on featuring decidedly (and, in this case, even admittedly) off the charts "wishlist" items, when what we the shoppers are after are practical, easy to find and affordable gifts. It's a stressful enough time of year. Who in the heck is going to buy a (cough, cough!) $5,000 stopwatch, or a $5,300 Sharp Aquos for a Christmas present? Maybe, like, one in a couple hundred thousand of your readers, nation-wide? That's not a very good use of space and resources for any magazine. The mens magazines are always doing this and it's such a waste. Just the same, I hate all the cheap throwaway gift ideas they often toss up. Stocking stuffers don't equate to one-time-use novelty crap. (POP phone = EPIC FAIL!) I do like the Chilldrops – they're great for the person on my list who I think has everything, but she probably does *not* have these! I'll be looking for them. The luggage scale was pretty neat, and not too expensive, but not something anyone on my list would get enough use from. I know, your-mileage-may-vary definitely applies here. But, that was a good find, nonetheless. Love Connected for its articles. This gift guide? Not at all. December 17, 201112:28 pm
  3. RobertWish the camera mount was for more than just the iPhonolopy. December 19, 201111:48 am
  4. Stephaniewow, this list misses my budget by such a long shot is not funny!! the media says we're all spending something like $500 average for -all- gifts this year. most of the gifts on this list are that price, alone, or well above. single professional working mom but, like everyone else I know, i have a modest budget. LTE – How does it work?
LTE – How does it work?

The technology behind LTE is a complex array of acronyms and geek speak involving “towers” and “spectrum.” But instead of getting into all that, it’s much simpler to think of this vast new network as a highway. If the current network is a five-lane highway, then LTE represents a 20-lane superhighway complete with multiple fast and high occupancy vehicle lanes, collectors and express lanes and many on- and off-ramps. LTE technology creates these lanes to allow data (streaming video, web [...]
